End-of-Life Notice: Plantronics M175C

We have been informed that the Plantronics M175C headset has now been discontinued and is no longer available to order. Plantronics are not currently offering a direct replacement for the M175C.

We recommend the Eartec 308 with the QD011 bottom lead as a suitable alternative for those wanting a low cost solution for the Cisco range of SPA desk phones and the headset compatible DECT handsets from Gigaset, snom and Yealink.

Wireless Headsets with Polycom phones

There is a very useful PDF guide on setting up Plantronics, Jabra and Sennheiser wireless EHS headsets with Polycom phones here:

Polycom PDF

You need to have bought the relevant EHS cable for Polycom phones and the headset you are using. We can source these cables, please give our sales people a call.

Two things I noticed when testing:

  • If you have a Polycom IP321 or IP331 phone then you need an rj9-2.5mm jack convertor (when using a Sennheiser headset at least). We can sell you this, part code is RJ9-2.5MM-5PK. This goes between the rj9 connector on the EHS adaptor and the 2.5mm jack headset port on the phone.
  • The PDF tells you to go into these menus on the phone:

    Menu > Settings > Basic > Preferences > Headset > Analog Headset

On the phone I used which was on 4.1.0 firmware the actual menu sequence was:

    Menu > Settings > Basic > Preferences > Headset > Hookswitch Mode

    • Make sure to pay attention to the headset mode settings on the headset itself by turning the dial(s) or DIP switch as per the Polycom PDF.

EAR-308/308D
If you’re looking for a standard headset which does the job with no fancy frills then the 308 range is the one for you. The no fuss, plain black design with the subtle branding means it can sit against any phone without causing a branding clash. The easy-flex boom means you have full control on the closeness of the microphone while the headset itself remains firmly in position. This model is great for anyone on a low budget in need of a headset for a normal office environment.

EAR-510/510D
The 510 range surpasses the 308 with its noise cancelling and anti-static shock microphone. At a surprisingly affordable price you will once again find yourself choosing between a monaural and binaural headset. The semi-flexible boom gives you enough room for adjustment on this slim, lightweight frame. With the noise cancelling features this headset will be suitable for a moderately noisy environment.

EAR100/100D (USB)
A first choice USB soft phone solution; the headset itself sports an adjustable microphone boom with noise cancelling technology to ensure clear sound quality. Whether you prefer one ear piece or two, this is safe choice for someone on a low budget.

How to: Connect a Plantronics CS540 with a Yealink Phone

This is a step-by-step guide of how to successfully connect a Plantronics CS540 to a Yealink SIP phone (Compatible with T26P, T28P, T38G).

You should have:
– Plantronics CS540 Headset
– Yealink Handset with EHS capabilities
– Yealink EHS36 adapter.

(For a full list of headset and phone compatibility please view our headset compatibility chart)

The image below shows the contents of each box that will be required for this setup. They have been labelled for ease of idenitification and grouped according to which box you will find them in -see the key below.

Green – Yealink T38G Box
Yellow – Yealink EHS36 Box
Red – Plantronics CS540 Box

Step 1:
Once you have the correct parts ready, the next step is to connect the 3.5mm cable from the Plantronics base unit, to the EHS36 box. You can’t really go wrong here as they will only fit into one slot on each unit, but the picture below highlights where to connect them.

Step 2:
Connect the RJ12 cable from the EHS36 box to the EXT port on the back of the T38G. This port should be clearly labelled on the phone. See the picture below for illustration.

Step 3:
Connect the Plantronics RJ11 cable from the base unit to the Headset port on the back of the T38G. This port is labelled with a small headset icon, it is located next to the Receiver port, please make sure these are put into the correct slots. Again, the picture below shows how they should be connected.

That’s it! Power up the phone and the Plantronics base if you have not done so already. If this is a new purchase please allow a short time for the headset to charge before use. To charge simply place it onto the base in the very obvious slot.

If you have any problems after following this guide, please email support@provu.co.uk with details of your issue and a member of the technical team will be happy to advise.

Aastra Wireless Headset

I have been testing Aastra 67xx series phones with Jabra GN9120 wireless handset for last couple of weeks and can only say one thing about it “awesome”.

Using this cable allow to answer and terminate telephone calls using the headset, while being away from the desk. Incoming calls are also signalled in the headset earpiece. And you can easily transfer the call from the handset to headset or other way round by just pressing single button.
